Paleontology in Portugal has centuries of scientific publications and discoveries of new organisms. Given the amount of scientific literature that students and researchers have to explore whenever they start new studies, it was considered necessary to create a database that gathered all the information on the fossil diversity of our country.

On May 19th, 2021, the Paleontologia Portugal database (current Portuguese Fossil Database) was created, a project based on a complex bibliographic analysis with the objective to collect all data on fossil material discovered in Portugal.
